Hospice & Palliative CareCenter Announces 2012 Board Members

Submitted on Tuesday March 13th, 2012

For nearly two years prior to the official incorporation of Hospice & Palliative CareCenter in 1979, the organization has been surrounded by dedicated community leaders who share a passion for the mission.

Today, Brian Payne, President and CEO gratefully acknowledges the many contributions of both the Governing Board of Directors and The Hospice Foundation Board of Directors. “In my seven months with this organization, I’ve been in awe of the level of commitment from our stellar board members. We are enriched and made better by their efforts and guidance,” shared Payne.

Richard Bennett, Attorney with Bennett & Guthrie, PLLC has been a long-time friend and advisor to the agency. Bennett, who currently serves as Chair of the Governing Board of Directors, has over two decades of service to Hospice on his resume. Serving with Bennett are 24 additional community leaders. “I’m thrilled with the level of commitment I see from my peers and proud to announce three new members to our board. This year we welcome Camille Banks-Payne, District Court Judge, Dr. Thomas “Tom” Sibert, President & COO of Wake Forest Baptist Health, and Doria “Kathy” Stitts, PhD, Associate Provost for Lifelong Learning & Interim Dean of University College at WSSU to our board,” said Bennett.

In addition to the Governing Board, a Foundation Board of Directors was established in 1993 to offer sound investment strategies and comprehensive fiscal oversight of agency funds. Thomas Goodson, Managing Director/Investment Advisor, Goodson & Nichols Financial Group is the Chair of the 2012 Foundation Board of Directors. He is pleased to welcome Dr. R. Morris Friedman, Marsha Johnson, VP, Wells Fargo, Michelle Livengood, Dewey’s Bakery, and Pete Zifchak, BB&T SVP, Corporate Sports Marketing and Event Planning Manager to the board.

Since 1979, Hospice & Palliative CareCenter has been committed to providing quality medical, emotional, spiritual, and social support to patients and families who face serious illness – regardless of diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment. Today, Hospice & Palliative CareCenter provides these services in a 13-county area from four offices (Mocksville, Walnut Cove, and Salisbury, in addition to Winston-Salem) and the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Hospice’s grief counseling services offer bereavement services to families of Hospice patients as well as grief counseling to the community at large. Hospice also offers pediatric palliative care to infants, children and their families.
