Hospice & Palliative CareCenter’s Grief Services

Many people are under the impression that the services found through Hospice & Palliative CareCenter are limited to those who are seriously ill or facing the end of their lives. While that is the majority of what we do, there is so much more to our mission. Our grief counseling services support and services extend to the families of our patients as well as the entire community – regardless of their hospice connection and are available even after the patient has passed away.

Got Plans? It’s as Easy as 1, 2, 3!

From a very young age we make plans for our lives. Young girls dream of wedding dresses, high school students take college tours and SAT classes, and even as young adults we’re busy planning for our careers or saving money for retirement. Having a plan for life is important. It helps you have a direction and eases anxiety. But there is one thing many people don’t plan for, and that’s what would happen if we were ever in a situation where we weren’t able to speak for ourselves or make healthcare decisions on our own.

Veteran’s Day gives us a chance to thank them for their service and show our pride in the people who help keep our country safe.

Specialized Care for Veterans

Did you know that here in the Piedmont and Foothills of North Carolina, one in five of the people under our care through the Hospice and Palliative CareCenter are veterans? So many of the men and women who served our country proudly, sacrificing time away from their homes and families to go overseas to Europe, Japan, Korea or Vietnam, are aging. Now, instead of fighting Hitler or communism, they are fighting the diseases of old age: cancer, heart disease and COPD, to name a few.

Celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It is hard these days to not be aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Pink is everywhere, from socks of NFL football players to lids of Yoplait Yogurt. Of course, as with everything, there are people who argue the pros and cons of this multi-media, national exposure. But there is no denying that the work done by many foundations to raise money for research and educate the public on the importance of proper screening for early detection is doing good.
