Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways to volunteer with Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, from providing support to patients and their families to directing traffic at a fundraising event. We invite you to join us in serving our community through the use of your time and talents.

Patient/Family Volunteers

Patient/Family Volunteers visit with patients who reside in their homes, in assisted living facilities or in long-term care facilities. These volunteers provide support and companionship, sometimes reading to patients, playing board games, or simply engaging in quiet conversation. Patient/ family volunteers may also run errands or transport patients to medical appointments. Volunteers who are notaries may notarize advance directives for patients (under the supervision of hospice staff).

Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home Volunteers

Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home Volunteers provide support to patients and their families at the Hospice Home. These volunteers may visit with patients, provide comfort and support to family members, or staff the information desk. Volunteers also assist with other special projects at the Hospice Home, under the supervision of a Volunteer Coordinator.

Complementary Therapies Volunteers

Complementary Therapies Volunteers, specially trained in massage, healing touch, reflexology and reiki, provide these services to patients residing in the Hospice Home, in nursing homes or in their own homes. Requirements for level of training and/or certification may apply.

Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteers

Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteers offer the healing presence of a therapy trained animal to patients and families at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.  All animals are required to be certified through an approved institution (Delta Society and TDI are preferred), and handlers are required to complete the same training as patient/family volunteers.

Hospice Hands Volunteers

Hospice Hands Volunteers engage in a variety of ways, including:

  • Hospice Bakers provide birthday and anniversary cakes for hospice patients.
  • Hospice Bingo volunteers host monthly bingo games in area nursing facilities.
  • Sewing Circle volunteers sew fidget aprons, comfort pillows, lap aprons, bib, neck pillows and wheelchair caddies for hospice patients.
  • Pantry Patrons collect non-perishable food items for the food pantries that serve our less fortunate patients living at home and for the family kitchens in the Hospice Home.
  • Garden Volunteers help with planting and maintaining various garden areas around the Hospice Home and the Hospice Lane campus.

Community Education and Outreach Volunteers

Community Education and Outreach Volunteers can help in any of the following capacities:

  • Speakers Bureau volunteers promote awareness of Hospice programs and services through speaking engagements, health fairs and various other community opportunities.

  • Event Volunteers assist with community activities, such as the Memorial Tree service and the Hospice Sabbath Rose program, and also with fundraising events, such as the annual 5k/10k and golf tournaments.
  • Veteran Volunteers assist staff with special events and activities to honor veterans in our community, in addition to providing unique support to patients who have been involved with military service.
