CAROUSEL PEDIATRIC PROGRAM
Serious illness is difficult for families no matter the age of the patient. But when the patient is a child, it seems to affect us all more deeply. And everyone’s main concern is that everything possible is being done to care for the child.
We understand that what families want most is help, hope, and support. Under the umbrella of the Carousel Pediatric Program there are four different programs specially designed to meet your needs.
Community Support: The Pediatric Program specializes in the needs of infants, children, and adolescents. In addition to providing medical, emotional, social, and spiritual support to patients and their families, the Program offers:
- Help finding resources
- Education and information
- Emotional support to the patient and family
- Referrals to community programs
Home Health: Home Health services are available for children who have a specific skilled need, such as caring for a wound, catheter or IV, or medication administration for new medications.
Hospice: Hospice services are available for children diagnosed with a life-limiting illness whose care is directed by the child’s primary physician. Care is provided to children wherever they reside -- home, hospital, or other care facility.
Counseling: The Grief Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling to anyone whose life has been impacted by the serious illness or death of a loved one. In addition to traditional counseling services, our counselors offer art and play therapies, educational workshops and specialized activities during the holidays.
Team Approach: The Pediatric Program offers an interdisciplinary team approach to care. The team includes physicians, nurses, social workers, counselors, chaplains and volunteers, all specially trained in pediatric care and experienced in providing services to children and families.
Population Served:
- Ages 0-18 and their families
- Serving 13 counties
- Common diagnoses include:
- Congenital anomalies
- Neurological diseases
- Genetic conditions
- Cancer
In addition to the core services of the Carousel Pediatric Program, Hospice & Palliative CareCenter sponsors two programs that aim to enhance the lives of pediatric clients:
Pediatric Community Alliance: The Pediatric Community Alliance is a group of interested individuals and organizations committed to improving the quality of care for infants and children living with a serious illness. The Alliance meets on a regular basis and is open to the public. Contact 336-331-1662 to find out how you can become involved.
Camp Carousel: Camp Carousel offers a retreat for children and adults who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Therapeutic activities are designed to help participants better understand and express their grief and learn new coping skills for facing their life changes.
