Vital Connections to Hope and Support

As the first hospice to be opened in North Carolina, Hospice & Palliative CareCenter has 30 years of experience providing unmatched medical care, counseling, and spiritual support to critically ill patients and their families. Regardless of a patient’s diagnosis, and without consideration of his or her ability to pay, we provide medically directed care through a highly skilled interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, social workers, nursing assistants, chaplains, volunteers, and bereavement counselors. We believe that during life’s most difficult transitions, the power of compassionate human connection can inspire hope and peace.

This Vital Connections campaign is our response to the expanding need for quality hospice care in our community. Our governing and foundation Boards of Directors have approved pursuit of the following capital improvements:
  • Expanding the KBR Hospice Home: Add 7,600 sq. ft. and 10 new private patient rooms for inpatient hospice care to address our extensive waiting list.

  • Enlarging the Palliative Care Center: Add 10,000 sq. ft. of space in order to accommodate growth in the training programs for medical students and education of healthcare
Answering the Call
The need for our services is growing every day, and there is no end in sight for the escalation in demand. While we make the most of the resources we have, the fact remains that last year 256 patients who were candidates for Hospice Home admission died while waiting for a room. Indeed, the need for our services and expertise is overwhelming. Without immediate expansion, this troubling statistic will trend higher, as more people in our community come to rely on Hospice.

Because Every Moment Counts
When the final stages of a progressive illness make living at home unfeasible, the KBR Hospice Home provides patients personalized pain-management plans, and round-the-clock nursing and visitation by volunteers. As the area’s only alternative to a hospital admission for patients needing intensive nursing skills and urgent palliative care, the KBR Hospice Home gives patients and their families a home away from home, promising peace and comfort while they cope with the daily ordeals of life-limiting illness.

The KBR Home operates at a greater than 100% occupancy rate, as more and more families in our community appeal for the admission of a loved one. To meet this rising demand, we will add 10 new rooms to the KBR Hospice Home. Comfortable and family-friendly, these rooms will assure that a patient at the end stages of a critical illness has constant skilled medical care, emotional and spiritual support, and the companionship of our volunteers and family members, who may visit any hour of the day or night.

For anyone in our community needing hospice care

-my friend, my family, my neighbor-

I will give the best of who I am.
Connected to all of these people,
      I value our vital connections.
So I will be a promise of strength
and participation and hope.
      Yes, hope.
      Hope for peace.
      Hope for acceptance.
      Hope for comfort.
Because it is more than my duty.
It is my honor.

So many vital connections are necessary to bring comfort and peace to those facing life-limiting illnesses. Between patients and caregivers. Between grieving families and counselors. Between you and us. We thank you for learning more about our Vital Connections campaign, and we look forward to meeting with you in person to discuss it.

Throughout the natural process of someone dying, we dedicate ourselves to the fact they are still living.

We will ease pain every step of the way, providing comprehensive medical and personal care, because we are a vital connection to hope during life’s final moments.
Delivering Difficult News and Options with Compassion
Physicians with knowledge about hospice and palliative care are able to give their patients better options for pain management, comfort, and quality of life. Last year, more than 4,500 people benefited from end-of-life education on our campus. An expansion of the Palliative CareCenter will allow for additional medical training and educational space so that this vital aspect of our programming may grow with the needs of the community.

Please Connect with Us Today
Your help can make a life-changing difference for those facing life-threatening illness. Perhaps no investment is more directly beneficial to the widest reach of our community, as more than 1 out of 3 people who die in Forsyth County, regardless of cause, are served by Hospice & Palliative CareCenter. We ask for your participation in our Vital Connections campaign as we raise $4 million on behalf of the people in our community who need intensive, compassionate support now.

Ways to Give and Naming Opportunities
Donors may make one-time gifts of cash, stocks, bonds, or real estate or may fulfill their pledges over an extended period. All gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Commemorative naming opportunities are available. Please call to discuss your specific wishes and ideas.
