Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! Lace up your walking and running shoes and join us at the first ever Rowan Hospice Share the Care 5k to benefit Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care. Saturday, November 12 is the big day, and there will be something for everyone. Whether you are a runner or a walker, your participation will bring hope to the many patients and families in Rowan and surrounding counties who are seeking compassionate care in their final months. There will even be a half-mile Fun Run for children ages eight and under.
The Rowan Hospice Share the Care 5K festivities will include live entertainment. Registration will open at 7:30 am, there will be a group warm-up at 8:45 am and the race/walk will begin at 9:00 am. The children’s Fun Run will be at 10:00 am.. The event will take place at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, 612 Mocksville Avenue in Salisbury.
If you are feeling competitive, time your run with timing provided by the Salisbury Rowan Runners. Your $25 registration fee includes a custom designed performance t-shirt, pre-run and post-run refreshments, entertainment, runner awards and complete run results.
“We are so excited about this event. It’s our first ever and we are hoping a great crowd will join us for both the fun and fellowship - and to help support our mission of providing compassionate care,” shared Edwina Ritchie, Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care’s Director of the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House. “Hospice care is paid for by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance. However, that reimbursement does not fully cover the cost of our care. That’s why we rely, in part, on donations from the community. The walk and run are open to everyone in the community, and the proceeds will benefit our patients and families in Rowan and surrounding counties,” added Ritchie. “It’s a great opportunity to honor or remember a loved one as well. We believe our Rowan Hospice Share the Care 5k is a great way for the community to support our mission,” Ritchie said.
